Konst för Gaza & Fuxia 2 invites you to a day dedicated to cultural resistance, including: A workshop by Lisa Nyberg, a talk by Carla Zaccagnini, short films by Mohanad Salahat and Maia Torp Neergaard and a poetry reading by Rim Khazaal Nilsson. All of which will be accompanied by food, bar & an auction. The aim is to offer an opportunity for artists and cultural workers in Malmö to meet and talk further; about the role culture can play in our time; about insights, thoughts and feelings in times of war and genocide; about continued cultural organisation for Palestine. You are welcome to join the whole day, or come and go as you wish. All proceeds from the day+evening will go directly to Palestinagruppernas akutinsamling.
Program schedule:
15:00 Shortfilm: Mohanad Salahat, Letter to Obama (2014)
7 minutes. In a refugee camp in the Gaza Strip, two boys decide to send a message to the American president Barack Obama through his Facebook page. They ask him, as the president of the United States, to intervene and end the siege on the Gaza Strip and they invite him and his wife to visit the Strip and witness people’s hardships there. But they never receive a response. They decide to use a small video camera to record a very angry video message addressed to Barack Obama from the people of the camp.
15:30 Workshop: Lisa Nyberg, To know and be known by a place
Welcome to an embodied conversation on settler colonialism, indigenous principles of reciprocity, and how the genocide in Gaza effects our relationship to the places we love.
16:45 Coffee break
17:15-18:00 Lecture: Carla Zaccagnini, Arroz à grega [Pilaf]
“This talk results from two conversations: one around 15 years ago, with a Danish curator who asked me why there was no political art in Brasil; and a more recent one with a Russian artist wondering how and if it still made sense to make art in times of war. I will talk about Neoconcreto, the art made in Brasil under dictatorship and violent repression.”
18:15 Shortfilm: Kunstparade + Mini workshop: Start where you are
Kunstparade: A film by Maia Torp Neergaard. Kunstparade is a movement working in solidarity for Palestine that was initiated in Copenhagen late 2023 by visual artist Samara Sallam. From December till March workshops, talks and community dinners were held preparing for the Kunstparade. This film is a short documentation of the Kunstparade and the journey leading up to it.
After the film Konst för Gaza organizer Anna Zingmark will introduce the writing exercise “Start where you are: a way to identify, organize and mobilize your personal resources”.
19:00 Dinner
19:45 Poetry reading: Rim Khazaal Nilsson
Rim Khazaal Nilsson will read a selection of her work. Rim’s poetry is deeply personal and often introspective, while carrying a universal resonance.
20:00 Konstauktion + Bar
Welcome to the final Konst för Gaza auction of 2024. A couple of new works have been added to the selection, and if you didn’t get to bid on the works at Malmö Open Studios, here’s your chance! It has all the promise of an exciting auction. During (and after) the auction you are welcome to get something from the bar, hangout and chat.
Konst för Gaza & Fuxia 2 stands in solidarity with Palestine, and with all anti-colonial struggles worldwide. We condemn Israel’s ongoing genocide of the Palestinian population, we condemn Israel’s war crimes and we condemn our government who turn their back on genocide. We want to promote an art world that stands up for the human rights of all people.
